The battle of 4-year-old Elio, who suffers from a rare form of leukemia, had already captivated social media. Last night, his parents announced a decisive breakthrough on Instagram: a compatible donor has been found. "It's an immense relief," they wrote, a message that quickly resonated with over a million people.
This anonymous donor was identified thanks to the exceptional mobilization sparked by the appeal launched on May 1st by Elio's father. His video, viewed more than 1.5 million times and shared throughout France, showed the little boy weakened by chemotherapy. On May 7th, Léa Salamé also spoke about his story on television. The result? More than 66,000 pre-registration requests for bone marrow donation, compared to the annual average of only 25,000.
Elio's parents, however, emphasize that "the road to recovery will still be long." They are calling for a continuation of the wave of solidarity, emphasizing that their son's story proves the real impact of each registration. "To everyone who ordered a kit: please send it back," they urge.
