UFC-Que Choisir has warned of the presence of allergens not mentioned on the labels of many cleaning products, although this practice is legal. The association tested 60 products and identified 26 substances requiring labeling above a certain threshold and 31 other substances which do not yet require labeling. For cosmetics, the obligation to report these new allergenic substances will begin in summer 2026, but this does not yet concern cleaning products.
Among the 60 products tested, 27 contained recently identified allergens, but only one product mentioned it on its label. Some of these products are even presented as "hypoallergenic", "for sensitive skin" or "sensitive", but they nevertheless contain allergenic perfumes, which creates a "lack of information" for consumers, even if this remains in compliance with current regulations.
The association criticizes this situation, emphasizing that the list of new allergens has been known for a long time in the cosmetics sector. The UFC-Que Choisir therefore requests that the labeling of new allergens be extended without delay to cleaning products and that mentions such as “hypoallergenic”, “sensitive skin” or “sensitive” be strictly regulated to avoid any confusion or misleading information for consumers.
