Liberal doctors' unions and Health Insurance are meeting this Thursday, February 8 to discuss medical prices for the next five years. This is the first meeting since the arrival of the Attal government and the new Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity, Catherine Vautrin.
Doctors' unions are awaiting concrete proposals from Health Insurance, and are demanding in particular an increase in the basic consultation with the general practitioner to 30 euros. The president of the CSMF union, Franck Devulder, threatened to request arbitration from the minister if this demand was not met.
The unions believe that their demands are economically feasible, and that it is a political choice. The president of the MG France union, Agnès Giannotti, met Ms. Vautrin last week and found her “very attentive” and “interested in the subject.”
Tariff negotiations resumed on November 15, after the failure of a first round last year. The government has set four areas of work, including the attractiveness of private medicine and the relevance of care. He wants doctors to commit to better controlling health spending in exchange for price increases.
The basic consultation, which had remained at 25 euros since 2017, was increased by 1.50 euros after the failure of the first negotiations. The unions considered this increase “ridiculous”.
