Head lice are small insects that infest the human scalp and feed on blood. Although their presence is not a sign of poor hygiene, they cause itching and can cause considerable discomfort.

School-age children are particularly affected
Transmission is direct between humans, particularly among school-age children. Although they do not transmit disease, lice are painful because it is necessary to treat linen, clothing, car seats, etc. and to examine the rest of the family to treat all affected subjects.

Some treatments have lost their effectiveness
Since the 1980s, lice have developed resistance and treatments have lost effectiveness. This is why the French Society of Dermatology recommends using:
. Mechanical treatments such as regular combing of damp hair and manual shedding to get rid of it.
. But above all a lotion based on dimethicone, a silicone oil which kills lice by chemical action. It suffocates lice by blocking their excretory ducts.
