Specialists in health misinformation and cult-like practices are calling for the cancellation of a conference scheduled at the Senate, which they accuse of promoting "pseudo-medicine." In a joint statement, GéPS, No FakeMed, and GEMPPI argue that the upper house should not become a showcase for alternative healthcare practices.
The event in question is scheduled for January 22nd under the patronage of LR Senator Laurence Muller-Bronn, at the initiative of GETCOP and the National Chamber of Health Practitioners, two organizations that advocate for unconventional therapies and "integrative health."
According to the groups opposed to the conference, this event aims to legitimize methods without scientific basis. They are demanding its cancellation, arguing that it undermines medical rationality. An opinion piece published in L'Express, signed by several health and anti-cult experts, also echoes this criticism.
The organizations also point out that this initiative contradicts the signal sent by the State, which has just presented its strategy to combat health disinformation, inspired by a report by Mathieu Molimard, Dominique Costagliola and Hervé Maisonneuve, who are also signatories of the op-ed.
